More than 155 million Brazilians are eligible to vote in the October 6 elections, according to data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). In the first round, voters will choose the president of the Republic, governors, senators, federal, state and district deputies.
Voting is mandatory for Brazilians aged 18 or over. The rule is provided for in article 14 of the Federal Constitution, which also determines the mandatory nature of voter registration in this age group.
Attendance at the polls is optional for young people aged 16 and 17, for those over 70 and for illiterate people. These groups can vote, but are not required to participate in the election.
Regarding foreigners, it is worth noting that only Portuguese people who choose the Equality Statute are obliged to vote.

- Registration in a professional card;
- Registration in the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF);
- Passport application or renewal;
- Obtaining credit with institutions maintained by the government;
- Delivery of the Exemption Declaration (internet);
- Enrollment in public schools and colleges;
- Participate in public competition;
- Registration in a public competition and possession of the position, if applicable, among others.
In addition to the documents and activities mentioned above, the voter will also be prevented from carrying out any act that requires discharge from military service or income tax. Finally, if the voter fails to vote in three consecutive elections, their voter registration will be cancelled.
