The Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, said, this Tuesday (24), that there is discussion in the government about a zero fare for public transport, according to him the current model is “bankrupt”. He participates in the program “Good morning, minister”, on Brazilian Communication Company (EBC).
“There is a discussion within President Lula’s government, and it was even a determination on the part of the president, who was assigned to the Ministry of Finance, to carry out an exactly economic study”, he stated.
According to him, it is necessary to carry out this economic feasibility study to find out how a proposal of this size will be financed.
“What is certain is that the model that is in place. The model in which the citizen had to pay for the entire fare is bankrupt, this model no longer works. It’s not in Brazil, it’s in the world. And we need, in fact, to discuss the subsidy process”, he added, saying that the proposal is still with the Treasury and only then will it arrive at the Ministry of Cities.
