According to the new plan of the European Union, Ukraine should not experience another serious energy crisis next winter. European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen announced the plan on Tuesday during a visit to Kyiv to mark the fourth anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.

The Union will support the recovery plan with the sum more than 920 million euros and will ensure reliable energy supplies throughout Ukraine during the winter of 2026-2027. At the same time, the decentralized production of energy from renewable sources will be accelerated and networks damaged by Russian attacks will be rebuilt and modernized, von der Leyen explained. According to the plan, the damaged power plants will also be repaired.

As part of the immediate aid, the head of the EC announced a new package worth more than 100 million euroswhich, according to her, should be available immediately, writes DPA. This happened after the EU did not approve its 20th package of sanctions against Russia and a financial aid of 90 billion euros to Ukraine due to the opposition of Hungary and Slovakia.

Ukraine says it is battling the worst energy crisis in the country’s history this winter. Millions of people were affected by power outages and heat supply cuts due to targeted Russian attacks on infrastructure, DPA reminds.
