The president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Acre (Aleac), deputy Nicolau Júnior (PP), highlighted the strategic importance of the Amazon Parliament for strengthening the agendas of the North region, during the inauguration ceremony of the new Board of Directors of the Institution, held in the Plenary of the House. The event marked the election of deputy Afonso Fernandes (Solidarity), to the presidency of the Amazon Parliament for the 2026–2027 biennium, consolidating Acre for the third time at the head of the collegiate that brings together parliamentarians from the nine states of the Legal Amazon. The ceremony was attended by politicians from the nine Amazon states.
In an interview given during the institutional program, Nicolau Júnior highlighted that the presence of a parliamentarian from Acre as president of the Amazon Parliament expands the State’s capacity for political articulation at the national level. He pointed out that the Institution functions as a space for the region’s political forces to unite to face historical problems that directly impact the Amazonian population. “It is a set of forces that brings together the nine states of the North to debate important issues and seek solutions to long-standing problems in our region, such as the issue of flights, which greatly harm Acre and other Amazonian states,” he stated.

The president of Aleac also emphasized that the main objective of the Amazon Parliament is to integrate the state, federal benches and the Senate around common agendas, strengthening the representation of the Amazon in the National Congress. For Nicolau Júnior, this articulation is essential to give visibility to regional demands and advance concrete solutions. “The Amazon Parliament must serve to unite state deputies, the federal bench and senators, so that we can achieve success in resolving the many problems that the Amazon faces”, he concluded.

During the opening of the ceremony, Nicolau Júnior also welcomed the delegations that participated in the event, highlighting Acre’s hospitality and the importance of institutional exchange between states and countries in the Amazon region. In his speech, the parliamentarian thanked the authorities for their presence and highlighted the symbolism of the meeting for strengthening regional integration. “It is a great honor to welcome you all here to our state. Many already know Acre, others are having this opportunity now, but everyone is very welcome”, he declared.

The president also greeted Acre parliamentarians, representatives of the Amazon Parliament and invited authorities, reinforcing that the moment represents unity and dialogue around common agendas in the region. According to him, holding the ceremony in Acre reaffirms the state Parliament’s commitment to regional debate and the construction of collective solutions to the challenges of the Amazon.
