The state of São Paulo registered, according to data from the Public Security Secretariat under the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican) administration.
191 murders were recorded in the month, a reduction of 11.1% compared to the same month in 2025. It is the lowest mark in 26 years.
Greater São Paulo was the region where there was the biggest reduction, 37.2%. In the capital, the number went from 46 to 34 cases, a decrease of 26%.
“The numbers show that the work of the Civil Service has been improving more and more. The speed of investigations, the monitoring of expertise in cases and the modernization of technological equipment to help elucidate crimes have prevented the perpetrator from claiming new victims and, thus, reducing the indicators of crimes against life”, says the general delegate of Civil, Artur Dian.
In the case of robberies, a crime that usually has great repercussions due to its brutality, there were 7 incidents recorded in January, also the lowest rate in 26 years. In January last year, there were 18 cases.
