Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is using the conflict with Ukraine over the damaged Druzhba pipeline as ammunition for an election campaign that is not going well for him. Hungary and Slovakia are the only EU countries that still receive oil from Russia and that have even increased their dependence on Russian oil during the four years of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. At the end of January, a Russian missile attack damaged a Druzhba pumping station in western Ukraine. In fact, the attacked country did not rush to repair the damage. Moscow’s last oil deliveries to the EU ultimately serve to finance the war against Ukraine.
