Spring is fast approaching, so now is the best time to plan the upcoming season in the garden and orchard. Apple trees require special attention for spring fertilization is one of the key treatments throughout the year.

Since I regularly take care of their power supply after winterthe trees bear abundant fruit every season and produce healthy, abundant crops. Not only the date of fertilization itself is important, but also what nutrients we provide to the plants. Properly selected, natural fertilizer can provide apple trees with everything they need for proper growth and fruiting.

Apple trees grow in almost every orchard, but in order for them to develop to their full potential, they require proper care, especially after winter. They start growing very early, so they need a solid dose of nutrients. The intensity of flowering depends on them, resistance to stress and disease, and, above all, the size and quality of crops.

The most important ingredients that an apple tree needs for proper and healthy growth are:

  • nitrogen – is responsible for the growth of leaves and young shoots and affects the size of fruits,
  • potassium – improves fruit quality and increases the tree’s resistance to frost,
  • phosphorus – supports flowering and proper development of the root system.

Fertilizing apple trees affects not only… the tree’s development in the coming season, but also on its condition in the following years. This is a procedure that should not be skipped. Its date depends on the stage of apple tree development.

The time for the first fertilization is fast approaching, because early spring fertilization of apple trees or at the turn of March and April. This is the moment when the tree wakes up from winter dormancy and begins to intensively absorb water and nutrients.

The exact moment of the first fertilization depends on weather conditions. It should be done after the soil has thawed, but before the vegetation has fully started. Further fertilization can be planned for May, and in some cases also for the beginning of June.

This is as important as the deadlinewith which we will feed the apple trees. It is perfect as a natural fertilizer nettle slurry, which can be prepared from both fresh and dried plants.

It is a fertilizer rich in easily absorbable nitrogen and valuable microelements such as iron and magnesium. Strengthens the resistance of trees, improves soil fertilityand also positively affects the quantity, size and taste of fruit.

Preparing such fertilizer is simple. Approximately 1 kg of fresh, crushed nettles should be poured with 10 liters of water and set aside in a barrel for about two weeks. Once the mixture begins to foam, it is ready to use. Before use, it should be used dilute with water in a ratio of 1:10 and water the apple trees with it.

However, if you do not have access to fresh nettles in early spring, use 500 g of dried ones. The preparation method remains the same. Start preparing it now so that it will be ready on time. The right moment of application is crucial for the proper development of apple trees and abundant fruiting.
