Palmeiras is back in the final of the Campeonato Paulista. This Sunday (1st), the Alviverde team won the classic against São Paulo, 2-1, in Barueri, and extended its historic series in tournament decisions.
The team reaches the decision for the seventh consecutive time. It was champion in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024 and runner-up in 2021 and 2025, being the only club to reach the final stage in all editions since 2020.
The current sequence of six finals already represents a record in Alviverde history and, considering all clubs, is second only to the eight consecutive Santos decisions between 2009 and 2016.
In the final, Palmeiras will face Novorizontino, this time in two games, with the decisive match at the opponent’s home. The team from the interior gained the advantage due to having a better goal difference, as both had the same 22 points throughout the tournament, including the 1-0 victory over Corinthians in the semi-final, played on Saturday (28).
The two decisive matches of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista are scheduled for March 4th and 8th.
In the semifinal clash, Abel Ferreira’s team opened the scoring with Mauricio, eight minutes into the opening half, and expanded the score with Flaco López, 12 minutes into the second half. Calleri, with a penalty, scored for the tricolor team, at 24.
The team led by Crespo still complained about another penalty, right at the beginning of the second half, when the ball hit defender Gustavo Gómez’s hand after Luciano’s cross, from the left. The VAR (video referee) analyzed the move and instructed field referee Daiane Caroline Muniz dos Santos not to mark the alleged infraction.
São Paulo returns to the field on Thursday (12), when they face Chapecoense in the Brazilian Championship. With ten points in four games, the Tricolor team shares the leadership of the competition with Palmeiras, who occupies first place due to the best goal difference.
For the Brasileirão, the Alviverde team will have Vasco as their next opponent, also on Thursday (12), in Rio de Janeiro.
