Summer heat naturally draws us to the water, and having even a small inflatable pool in the garden is a huge win for refreshing children and adults. But all it takes is a moment of inattention, a sharp pebble under the floor, a jumping pet or a clumsy fall of a toy, and air and water will start to leak out of the favorite oasis of peace in a flash. Searching for original adhesive kits in stores takes a lot of time, and classic patches often need hours to dry perfectly, which does not make us happy on a hot afternoon. Instead of a long wait, we can use an unexpected DIY trick for an immediate repair, which combines two small things that we normally have in a drawer and on the kitchen counter at home.

Liquid glue and soda
The combination of ordinary liquid instant glue and classic baking soda may sound strange at first listen, but in the hands of a home handyman it turns into a finished miracle. This chemical combination works in such a way that the glue liquid is transformed into an impermeable and extremely hard one within a single second . In this case, the soda works with its alkaline properties, which immediately start a lightning chain reaction in the cyanoacrylate, i.e. in the substance from which the glue is made. The result is immediately waterproof and can withstand even the high pressure of water in the pool.
The surface must be dry
Before the actual intervention, it is of course necessary to first find the place of the leak itself, which we can do with a full pool according to the leaking bubbles, or with the help of soapy water. As soon as we find the crack, we must thoroughly dry the area around the “wound”, remove all grease and gently roughen it, for example with the coarser side . A clean and dry surface is absolutely essential for the proper adhesion of the homemade putty, as water would prematurely invalidate the magical reaction. If the crack is on the inflatable part, it is better to blow it slightly before gluing, so that the leaking air does not blow the mixture.
It’s a job for a few seconds
The application procedure itself is basically a lightning fast affair, where we don’t have to wait for anything for a long time. We drip a layer of instant glue directly on the damaged area and immediately cover it all with a thick layer of baking soda. The substance instantly hardens into stone, and the excess white powder can simply be blown off or wiped off with a dry cloth. If we have a deeper crack or a larger hole below the water surface, we can repeat this layering process several times in a row until a strong and impermeable plastic joint is formed.
The connection survives the entire pool
The great advantage of this emergency solution is that we can basically start using the pool fully again immediately without fear of peeling off the chemical patch. The resulting connection is so stable and strong that it often outlives the life of the entire inflatable pool itself. We don’t have to immediately buy a new pool because of a minor accident or find expensive kits to repair such a summer necessity. This simple chemical trick from the kitchen gives a great way to save summer fun in a few minutes and at minimal cost.
