It came after projectiles were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, with Iran-backed Hezbollah later claiming responsibility for the strike. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.

Lebanese state media reported that Israel attacked the southern suburbs of Beirut, while the militant movement said it had hit Israel with rockets and drones. According to the statement, yes the group did in response to the killing of Iran’s supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. AFP journalists reported several loud explosions in the Lebanese capital.

Israel’s military said earlier that it had intercepted one attack from Lebanon, while the other projectiles landed in open areas. According to the army, no injuries or damage were reported.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the rocket fire on Israel. “Regardless of who is responsible for the attack, the rocket fire from southern Lebanon is an irresponsible and suspicious act that threatens Lebanon’s security and gives Israel an excuse to continue its attacks,” wrote Salami to X platforms.

Lebanon and Israel reached a truce in 2024, ending more than a year of fighting between Tel Aviv and Hezbollah. However, both sides have been accused of violating it ever since. The United States and Israel launched a coordinated military operation against Iran on Saturday. Tehran responded with retaliatory attacks on Israel and the Gulf states. Hezbollah expressed solidarity with Iran.
