Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), This Monday (2) denied the request for house arrest to former president Jair Bolsonaro.
In the decision, the Moraes said that Papudinha’s facilitiesin Brasília, where the former president is imprisoned, provide adequate medical care. Furthermore, the minister stated that the attempted violation of the electronic ankle monitor, which occurred last year, is also an obstacle to granting the request.
Defense
The defense claimed that the prison facilities are not capable of providing adequate medical treatment to Bolsonarowho recently underwent inguinal hernia surgery and has several comorbidities as a result of the stab wound inflicted on him during the 2018 election campaign.
When analyzing the request, Moraes said that Papudinha’s facilities are adequate to serve Bolsonaro in the event of an emergency.
“The specific conditions and adaptations of the prison unit fully meet the needs of the convict, with the possibility and effective provision of continuous medical services, with multiple daily visits, physiotherapy sessions, physical activities, religious assistance, in addition to guaranteeing the defendant, in absolute guarantee of the principle of human dignity”, said the minister.
Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison in the coup plot and is serving his sentence in the 19th Military Police Battalion, located within the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in Brasília. The place is known as Papudinha and is intended for special prisoners, such as police officers, lawyers and judges.
