Flávio Bolsonaro defines campaign legal team – 03/02/2026 – Politics

The senator (PL-RJ) defined the legal team for his campaign for the Presidency of the Republic. The electoral strategy of the (Superior Electoral Court) Maria Claudia Bucchianeri, which for the president () and for the former president of the Chamber of Deputies (PP-AL).

The team will also be coordinated by lawyer Tracy Reinaldet, from Curitiba and specialized in electoral criminal law. He will be responsible for centralizing the campaign’s demands, organizing responses to the press and providing state directories and other areas with legal recommendations.

When announcing the team in a meeting with the group of PL deputies and senators last week, Flávio stated that the campaign will be professional — without the improvisation of the first contest in which his father, the former president (PL), was elected, in 2018.

Maria Claudia Bucchianeri defended in , together with lawyers Fernando Neisser and Luiz Fernando Pereira, the eligibility of then former president Lula, who was trying to return to power in 2018 despite being arrested in Curitiba for a conviction resulting from Operation Lava Jato.

Lula, as expected even by the PT, and (PT), then vice-president, took up the candidacy as the former president’s political heir. The convictions against the former president in 2021, by the (Supreme Federal Court).

Despite having integrated the PT member’s legal defense in the election, Maria Claudia managed to be appointed by Bolsonaro as TSE minister thanks to Lira, the then president’s main ally in Congress.

From 2021 to 2023, Bucchianeri served as substitute minister for minister Sérgio Silveira Banhos at the TSE, but when the incumbent’s term ended, as would be traditional at the court. At the time, an appointment by the then president of the TSE, broke the rite.

Moraes worked on the recommendation of the lawyer, former director of the USP Law School. The STF minister is the target of the Bolsonaro supporters and wanted a name they trust in the court to judge Bolsonaro’s ineligibility action.

Reinaldet became known nationally after signing up for Lava Jato, as well as money changer Alberto Youssef and former minister Antonio Palocci. He is also close to the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Junior (PSD), a possible opponent of Flávio in the campaign for the Presidency.

When announced as legal coordinator of the campaign, he told PL parliamentarians that the orientation is to be agile and respond quickly to opponents’ attacks.

The new team has already started working on Flávio’s actions. The senator went to the Electoral Court with an advance request for evidence with the aim of supporting a future electoral action to request Lula’s ineligibility because of the parade by the Acadêmicos de Niteói samba school in honor of the PT member. The electoral investigation action itself can only be presented when the president’s candidacy is registered, in August.

The piece is signed by Maria Claudia Bucchianeri and the office of lawyer Marcelo Ávila de Bessa, who has served the PL for more than 20 years and will also act in the election in relation to the party.

On another front, Reinaldet has won victories in recent days in moral damages actions. In one of them, judge Cleber de Andrade Pinto, from the 16th Civil Court of Brasília, determined that posts linking Flávio to the Banco Master case should be excluded from the networks — the senator says it is fake news.

Another action being processed at the level of appeal in the 8th Civil Panel of the Court of Justice of the Federal District was filed by the PT to try to take down Flávio’s publications in which the caption was identified as “Partido dos Traficantes”. Judge Eustáquio de Castro determined that the posts can be kept until the final judgment of the appeal.

Since last week, the senator has been structuring the teams that will lead his presidential campaign, choosing names he trusts for the different areas. On Friday (27), he announced that the governor of , (Republicans), will coordinate the strategy in the state.
