Flamengo announces resignation of coach Filipe Luís – 03/03/2026 – Sport

Flamengo announced early this Tuesday morning (3) the dismissal of coach Filipe Luís, who had renewed his contract with the club at the end of 2025.

“The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that, from this Tuesday (3), Filipe Luís will no longer be in charge of the professional team”, says a statement released by the club.

Technical assistant Ivan Palanco and physical trainer Diogo Linhares also leave Flamengo.

“Flamengo thanks former athlete and coach Filipe Luís for everything that was achieved and shared on this journey. The club wishes him success and good luck in continuing his professional trajectory”, completes the note.

The departure was announced hours after the team beat Madureira 8-0 in the semifinals of the Campeonato Carioca.

Despite the defeat, Flamengo is experiencing a crisis with fans after starting the season with the loss of the Brazilian Super Cup titles to Corinthians and the Recopa Sudamericana titles to Lanús, from Argentina.

Filipe Luís, board members and players were the target of protests in the match against Madureira.

The renewal contract, signed in December last year, was scheduled to end in December 2027.

The Santa Catarina native ended a successful playing career in 2023, wearing the red-black shirt. He then started working as the team’s coach, initially in the under-17 category, then in the under-20 category, with good results. In September 2024, after Tite’s dismissal, he gained a chance in the professional squad and needed just nine games to win his first title.

Applying tactical concepts he learned in Europe, as a left-back for Deportivo La Coruña, Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea, he quickly proved himself capable of dealing with Flamengo’s star-studded squad. He had public fights with attackers Gabigol and Pedro and came out stronger.

In 2025, the former coach led the team to win titles in Brazil and South America, in addition to impressive results against European opponents. In the Club World Cup, the Rio club defeated Chelsea, who would go on to become champions, 3-1. In the Intercontinental Cup, they were only beaten by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties, after a 1-1 draw.
