Moraes orders former advisor to return to prison in the interior of PR – 03/03/2026 – Panel

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, ordered the return of the former presidential advisor to the Ponta Grossa (PR) jail, the city where he lived when he was arrested.

Currently, Martins, who was convicted in the coup plot process, is imprisoned at the Penal Medical Center, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba.

The precarious situation and lack of structure were the arguments used by state authorities to transfer to the capital, on January 6th.

“The Penitentiary Security Directorate stated that the relocation was the result of an objective assessment of risk and security, based on the administration’s legal duty to protect the physical and moral integrity of the person in custody, under the terms of article 40 of the Penal Execution Law”, explained the Paraná government body in a letter to Moraes.

This change of location, however, was made without the minister’s authorization, which generated a reprimand from him and the decision to return to Ponta Grossa.

“The transfer of the defendant carried out without prior authorization from this Supreme Court constitutes an undue mitigation of the jurisdiction of this court, in addition to compromising the regular monitoring of criminal execution”, said Moraes in a statement to the Paraná Criminal Police on Saturday (28).

He then ordered Martins’ return to the interior jail within 24 hours, which had not yet occurred until this Tuesday morning (3).

Another concern for the defense and Martins’ family is the overcrowding of the Ponta Grossa unit and the possibility of rebellions there.
