On the morning of this Wednesday (19), Operation Rent a Car began, with the aim of executing six search and seizure warrants in the states of , and . The operation focuses on advisors to deputies and, both from the (PL) of Rio de Janeiro, who are suspected of involvement in a scheme to embezzle public resources. Investigations point to the misuse of parliamentary quotas through fraudulent contracts with car rental companies.

The evidence collected so far suggests the existence of financial transfers without apparent justification and the practice of “smurfing”. This term refers to the technique of dividing large sums of money into small deposits, with the aim of circumventing government supervision. The operation was authorized by the Minister of the (STF), who is also investigating the possible connection of the advisors with a company already mentioned in cases of bid fraud in the state of Amazonas.

So far, the Federal Police have not revealed the names of the advisors involved in the investigation. Regarding the deputies mentioned, Carlos Jordy has not yet commented on the operation. On the other hand, Sóstenes Cavalcante announced a press conference, which will take place in the Green Room of the Chamber of Deputies, scheduled for 12pm.
