The Department of Diplomacy warns Slovaks in the Middle East against traveling between countries

The Department of Diplomacy urges Slovaks in the countries of the Middle East not to travel at all costs to the countries from which the Slovak government’s repatriation flights depart.

Slovaks located in the countries of the Middle East, from which repatriation flights cannot be carried out at the moment, should not move individually to the countries from which the Slovak government is currently evacuating. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ) of the Slovak Republic addressed them with an invitation.

“For security reasons, we strongly recommend considering all the risks associated with traveling between the countries of the Middle Eastern region, for example from the United Arab Emirates to Oman,” the Department of Diplomacy warned. “Given possible unexpected obstacles or restrictions, such as long queues at borders or temporarily closed borders, or further escalation of the conflict, we recommend citizens to stay safe and follow the instructions of local security forces,” the ministry added.

He further reminds that the responsible departments are currently focusing on repatriation flights mainly for vulnerable groups and families with children for reasons of security, capacity and logistics. “In the event that citizens of the Slovak Republic are already included on a specific repatriation flight, the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic will provide them with confirmation and the necessary cooperation in order to facilitate their passage across the border,” the department informed.

Possibility of commercial flights

In view of the gradual restoration of civil commercial flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to European destinations, he recommends that citizens primarily be in contact with travel agencies and airlines and travel to Oman only if the International Crisis Operations Center of the Slovak Diplomacy has confirmed that specific persons are included on a given repatriation flight with the exact date, time and place of departure.

The Ministry continues to appeal to Slovak citizens to register in the Slovak diplomacy’s voluntary registration system on the Ministry’s website or through the Svetobežka application. It also reminds us of the 24/7 hotline of the International Operational Crisis Center at phone numbers +421 2 5978 5978 or +421 906 075 978.
