The Southern Command of the United States Armed Forces (Southcom) reported, in the early hours of Tuesday (3), that forces from Ecuador and the USA began operations against what it classified as “terrorist organizations” in Ecuadorian territory.
Southcom, which is the combatant command of the US Armed Forces responsible for 31 countries in South America, Central America and the Caribbean, stated that the action was aimed at combating illicit drug trafficking, but did not provide further details in a statement published on the social network X.
The images released along with the statement show helicopters taking off and surveillance videos of people walking towards the aircraft on the ground.
Reuters was unable to independently verify the location or date of the video. No previous version of the images was found published online before Tuesday.
