The STF removed from office this Wednesday (4) the mayor of Macapá (AP), Antônio Furlan, known as Dr Furlan (MDB), and his deputy, suspected of fraud in the construction of the municipality’s General Hospital.
The two are targets of the second phase of the Federal Police’s operation Paroxismo.
The PF wants to deepen the investigations into a possible bid fraud scheme within the scope of a contract signed by the Municipal Health Department of Macapá.
The decision is made by the STF as it involves parliamentary amendments in the hospital.
According to investigations, there is evidence of the existence of a criminal scheme, involving public agents and businesspeople, aimed at directing bidding, embezzlement of public resources and money laundering in the engineering project and execution of works at the city’s Municipal General Hospital.
13 search and seizure warrants are being executed in the cities of Macapá/AP, Belém/PA and Natal/RN, issued by the Federal Supreme Court, which also determined the
removal of public servants from their positions for an initial period of 60 days.
In January, the CNN revealed the investigation.
