NATO systems shot down an Iranian ballistic missile that was heading over the territory of Turkey

On Wednesday, Turkey announced the successful neutralization of an Iranian ballistic missile, which was shot down by NATO air defense systems before entering Turkish airspace.

The Turkish Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that air defense systems of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the eastern Mediterranean shot down a ballistic missile fired from Iranian territory before it entered Turkish airspace. The missile flew through the airspace of Iraq and Syria. “A ballistic missile launched from Iran… was neutralized in time by NATO air and missile defense assets located in the Eastern Mediterranean and deactivated,” the Turkish Defense Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry clarified that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. It added that Turkey reserves the right to respond to hostile actions. At the same time, it warned the parties involved to refrain from steps that could escalate the conflict in the Middle East.
