The rapporteur of the Public Security PEC, deputy (União Brasil-PB), removed from the opinion the section that opened the door for reducing the age of criminal responsibility. The decision was taken after a meeting with the president of the Chamber, (Republicanos-PB), this Wednesday (March 4, 2026).
The proposal was sent by the Executive and is also treated as a priority by the House command. Mendonça resisted the removal of the device, but the text would face resistance if it were taken to the plenary in the previous version.
It was agreed with party leaders that the topic will be discussed in a parallel project. According to the previous text, a popular consultation was scheduled to take place in 2028 to debate the possibility of reducing the age of criminal responsibility to 16 years.
The PEC would be analyzed by the special committee this Wednesday morning (4th March), but the . Motta decided to take the proposal directly to the plenary. The rapporteur must present a new version of the opinion. The last one had been filed in December 2025.
