Pedro Nuno Santos and Mariana Mortágua
After the Legislatures of May 18, 2025, Pedro Nuno Santos left the leadership of the PS, suspending his mandate as deputy for 180 days. Also on the left, Mariana Mortágua left the coordination of the Bloco de Esquerda. And then?
The two left-wing figures now live different routines. In the case of the former general secretary of the PS, after achieving one of the worst results in socialist history (22.83%), has not yet decided whether to return to Parliamentaccording to the magazine’s sources.
The six-month suspension of Pedro Nuno Santos’ mandate, for “considerable reasons of a personal and professional nature”, ends on April 24th.
According to the magazine, Pedro Nuno Santos returned to work at his father’s company, Tecmacal, associated with the footwear sector and based in São João da Madeira.
Mariana Mortágua, in turn, remained in the political field (but not only) after leaving the coordination of the Bloco de Esquerda. She was elected to the National Board and participates in state plenaries, although without an employment relationship with the party.
In fact, the former bloc leader’s main focus seems to be on ISCTEwhere he has been teaching since 2020/21 and has held academic coordination roles. In January, Mortágua became director of the Doctorate in Economics.
