A United States Navy veteran interrupted a Senate hearing to protest the war in Iran, ending up detained and injured during the police intervention.
The incident took place at a session of the United States Senate Armed Services subcommittee, when Brian McGinnis stood up to condemn the conflict. The former soldier shouted that “Israel is to blame for this war” and that Americans do not want to send their children to fight for another country.
Faced with the interruption, agents from the United States Capitol Police tried to remove McGinnis from the room. The man resisted and ended up being dragged out, at which point he was injured in his hand when it got stuck in a door.
During the confusion, three police officers also suffered minor injuries and received medical assistance.
Republican Senator Tim Sheehy helped agents control the situation. Later, he explained on the X social network that he decided to intervene to help remove the protester and try to calm the moment.
Following the incident, McGinnis was charged with assaulting law enforcement officers, resisting arrest, unlawful gathering, obstruction and disrupting a hearing. The veteran is also a candidate for the United States Green Party for Senate in the state of North Carolina.
