The first 100 hours of the United States military campaign against Iran cost $3.7 billion, equivalent to approximately $890 million per day. The estimate was released by the Center for Strategic and International Studies this Thursday (5).
According to the survey, most of these expenses were not foreseen in the US Department of Defense budget. Of the total spent, only US$178 million was included in financial planning, while more than US$3.5 billion represents extraordinary expenses.
The sum totals US$ 196 million, while the cost of ammunition reaches US$ 3 billion. To replace combat losses or repair damaged equipment, US$390 million was allocated. Naval operations in the region cost an average of US$15 million daily, not counting air operations and all land logistics at the American bases that are being attacked.
Cost reduction trend
The survey points out that these costs tend to decrease over time, as the beginning of conflicts is generally marked by more intense battles. According to Pete Hegseth, American Secretary of Defense, Iran has significantly reduced missile launches, with a .
The study was prepared based on information released by the Department of Defense about the troops mobilized and types of weapons used. This data was compared with surveys by the Budget Office on how much it costs to maintain military equipment such as F-35 fighters, destroyers and aircraft carriers in the Middle East.
The situation could generate internal political pressure in the United States, where the population already faces problems with inflation. The American government will probably need to request an additional budget for the Ministry of Defense to cover unforeseen expenses with the conflict.
