Contacted by the Panel this Wednesday (4), the entity said that the publicity piece was wrong and changed the material, inviting only “to the public hearing with the aim of discussing the criminalization of Favela do Moinho”.
The OAB states that it was the Human Rights Commission that called the hearing, after several complaints of use of force and excesses by police officers in operations in the community.
“Bring complaints of rights violations to a transparent debate and, depending on the result of the hearing, forward them to public authorities or not. But there is no a priori position from the OAB SP regarding the issue that will be discussed”, says the OAB.
“It is the institution’s duty to always call for the defense of the population’s rights and guarantees and give space to listen to everyone involved: government, entities, population involved, everyone was invited”, he states.
