At least twelve people died and others were injured after a collapse recorded in the early hours of Thursday, 5th, in a building located in the Jardim Vitória neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The last body was located and removed from the rubble on Friday morning, 6around 6 o’clock. On one of the floors of the building, there was a home for the elderly.
According to the Fire Department, the searches have been terminated. Of the total of 29 victims at the scene, nine left on their own, eight were removed alive and 12 died.
The victims who managed to escape were in a part of the building that did not completely collapse.according to firefighters. The majority were sent to Odilon Behrens Hospital.
Assistance for the incident at the building, which is located at Rua Soldado Mário Neto, 141, was opened at around 1:30 am.
The causes of the incident are still being investigated. According to firefighters, the building has a Fire Department Inspection Report (AVCB), but it is being checked whether it would be valid due to a fire in the building’s garage and partial closure of the property by Civil Defense in 2023.

At least 15 vehicles were mobilized to the location, which also had the support of the Civil Defense, Municipal Civil Guard and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).
“The perimeter was isolated for the search operation for possible people under the rubble of the building at the site,” said the corporation, at the time of the rescue.
