The only athlete who would represent Iran at the Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympic Games was forced to withdraw due to the war currently taking place in the Middle East and which prevents him from traveling to Italy, the International Paralympic Committee announced this Friday (6).
“It is truly disappointing for world sport, and especially for Aboulfazl Khatibi, that he cannot safely attend his third Paralympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortina 2026”, lamented Andrew Parsons, president of the organization, just hours before the start of the opening ceremony that will take place in Verona, without an Iranian representative or flag.
