Lionel Messi was one of the protagonists of Inter Miami’s visit to the White House, on Thursday, where the team was received by Donald Trump after winning the MLS title in 2025. During the meeting, the President of the United States starred in a moment that quickly went viral… by quoting Cristiano Ronaldo.
Trump said that his son had told him, hours before, that Messi would be present. “My son said: ‘Dad, do you know who will be here today?’. And I replied: ‘No, I have a lot of things going on’. He said: ‘Messi!’”, he reported, adding that his son is a great admirer of the Argentine player.
The North American president also took the opportunity to talk about the historic rivalry in world football. “He is a tremendous fan of you and a gentleman called Ronaldo. Cristiano is great and so are you. They are two of the great champions of this sport”, he said, making Messi smile.

Trump ended his speech by congratulating Inter Miami on winning the championship and thanking the team for their presence, as well as the club’s president, Jorge Mas.
It is worth remembering that Cristiano Ronaldo has also been to the White House, having been received by Donald Trump in November last year, during an official visit by Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
