Gol announces flight between Rio de Janeiro and New York starting in July

A Gol Linhas Aéreas announced, this Friday (6), that it will operate nonstop flights between Rio de Janeiro (Galeão Airport) and new York (JFK). The start of flights is scheduled for July 8th.

The news was announced on the same day that the company informed the market that it would receive five Airbus planes A330-900 between 2026 and 2027.

The forecast is three weekly frequencies round trip: on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, flights take off from Galeão at 9:55 pm and land at JFK, in New York, at 6:55 am. The return takes place on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, leaving at 11pm and arriving at 9:55am in Rio.

The company informs that the Tickets will be available from this Friday in the company’s sales channels.

The announcement was made in a ceremony at the airport in the presence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho; and the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD).

Lula said that recovering the capital of Rio de Janeiro is important for Brazil and joked: “until now you just won’t take a flight to Iran. Leave Iran for later”.

New planes

The A330-900 is a widebody aircraft with two internal aisles. This type of aircraft is normally used on international and busier routes. The airline’s expectation is to also start routes to Europe.

It will be the first time that Gol will operate planes from the manufacturer Airbus. Throughout the company’s history, operations have always been with Boeing 737 aircraft. The possibility of allocating part of the Abra Group’s Airbus aircraft fleet had been discussed since October 2025, when the group acquired part of Gol’s operations.

Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of the ABRA Group, says that “with the new A330-900 operated by Gol, we will explore long-haul markets from Brazil, this is very important for ABRA. We become even stronger, offering new route options so that our customers can take advantage of more opportunities with the companies in our Group”.
