Police officers Ján Čurilla and Pavel Ďurka, who were detained by the Inspection Service Office (ÚIS) as part of the Kajúcnik operation, were released by the Bratislava I City Court on Friday evening. He justified this by the fact that the motion for custodial prosecution was submitted by the prosecutor to a non-jurisdictional court. The prosecutor filed a complaint against the decision, which will be decided by the Regional Court in Bratislava on March 16. Pavol Adamčiak, the spokesman of the Bratislava courts, informed about it.
According to Adamčiak, the request for custody, submitted by the prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Trnava, should have been submitted to the court under the jurisdiction of this prosecutor. “For this reason, the decision could not be other than the immediate release of the accused,” the spokesman pointed out. At the same time, he stated that the judge questioned the validity of the accusation and the declared reasons for detention.
Motion to arrest police officers Ján Čurilla and Pavel Ďurkawho are accused of abusing the authority of a public official and blackmail, was given by the investigator to the ÚIS for collusive reasons. He was therefore afraid that they could influence witnesses, experts, co-accused or otherwise thwart the investigation. The prosecutor agreed with the initiative and submitted a request for custody to the court on Thursday (March 5) morning.
As part of the Kajúcnik event, the police inspectorate arrested and charged four current and two former police officers and one civilian on Tuesday (March 3). These are accusations of blackmail and abuse of the authority of a public official, which were allegedly committed in an organized manner.
Other detainees, including the prosecutor of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic Michal Šúrek or police officers Branislav Dunček, Róbert Magula and Roman Staš on Wednesday (March 4) they released him after questioning. Those prosecuted will be released.
