Too mild, too dry: runoff and groundwater are low in Austria

Vienna – Last winter was overall too mild and too dry in Austria, according to current evaluations by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment (BMLUK) on Saturday. Above-average temperatures, a precipitation deficit and small amounts of snow have had a strong influence on the hydrological situation in recent months. The months of December and January in particular were significantly too dry; it was only February that brought heavy rainfall.
