US President says Caribbean island faces critical situation after interruption of aid from Venezuela
The President of the United States, (Republican Party), stated this Saturday (March 7, 2026), during the launch of the Shield of the Americas Summit, that Cuba is in negotiations with the North American government. According to him, the Caribbean island faces a critical situation and is in “his last moments of life”.
“We are looking forward to the great change that will soon come to Cuba. Cuba is at the end of the line, really very close to the end of the line. They have no money, they have no oil. They have a bad philosophy, they have a bad regime, which has been bad for a long time”he declared. The Republican also stated that the Cuban government “negotiate” with the White House.
“I think an agreement would be reached very easily with Cuba. But Cuba is in its last moments of life as it is. Then it will have a great new life, but, as it currently is, it is in its last moments”said Trump.
The Cuban crisis is related to the interruption of Venezuelan aid to the island after the attack on January 3, 2026, which resulted in the capture of the country’s former president (PSUV, left). Since then, the US has imposed measures that have affected the supply of Venezuelan oil to Cuba.
On February 8, Mexico, governed by (Morena, left), humanitarian aid arrived on the island because of the escalating crisis.
SHIELD OF THE AMERICAS DOME
this Saturday (March 7, 2026) the “Shield of the Americas Summit”. the White House, this is a group of countries that “will work together to develop strategies that prevent foreign interference in our hemisphere, the activities of criminal and narco-terrorist gangs and cartels, in addition to illegal and mass immigration.”
The head of the White House spoke. The Secretaries of Defense and State, respectively, also spoke to journalists. The event brought together mostly right-wing leaders. Everyone present governs US-aligned American countries. Trump declared that “The core of the agreement is the commitment to use lethal military force to destroy sinister cartels and terrorist networks.” He also stated that the US is expanding its military capacity.
WHO PARTICIPATED
The event brought together only leaders from Latin American countries aligned with Trump’s foreign policy. The president of Brazil, (PT), was not invited. In total, 10 of the 12 leaders are categorized on the right-wing spectrum, leaving only Kamla Persad-Bissessar (Trinidad and Tobago) and Irfaan Ali (Guyana). The 1st is read as a left-wing head of government, and the 2nd as a center.
The leaders hold a meeting for the month of March in Washington (USA). At the time, Lula said he considered it important that the heads of state of Brazil and the United States meet in person to discuss the bilateral relationship. He stated that the 2 countries are “the main democracies of the West”.
Trump had already shown interest in strengthening his alliances in the region. It supported the government of Argentina, in October 2025, and US$20 billion – a currency exchange mechanism between central banks used to reinforce reserves and stabilize the financial system – to support the country’s economy.
The Republican has also sometimes praised how the president of El Salvador deals with immigration and public security.
