Second-term state deputy in the state of São Paulo, Marina Helou is leaving , which she helped found 12 years ago. She will join to run for federal deputy.
Helou must lead the way in a stampede of leaders linked to the Minister of the Environment — The group feels suffocated by the current party leadership, controlled by allies of federal deputy Heloisa Helena (RJ).
“I collected the signature for the Network to be created, as a volunteer. It is difficult to leave the party, emotionally and structurally, but we have reached a point of irrationality in the relationship with the leadership”, says Helou.
The decision is irreversible, he says. “It no longer makes sense for me to spend my energy and the contribution I can make to society on an unproductive internal fight, with completely authoritarian people, instead of using this to build the public policies that I believe in”, he states.

The minister has invitations from PT, PSOL, PV, PDT and PSB to run for the Senate in São Paulo. “. It’s the biggest chance our field has to win”, says Helou, who has the minister as a mentor and biggest reference in politics.
The option for the PSB, says the deputy, came from the party’s commitment to a sustainable agenda. The party will create a secretariat linked to this topic, which will be occupied by it.
“The PSB has been consolidating itself as a space to build. We have become accustomed to politics of the opposite. I’m against this, I’m against that. But what about what we want to build? The PSB opens up a space for that”, she states.
His party “godfathers” in affiliation, he says, are deputy Caio França, his colleague in the Legislative Assembly,
During her state term, Helou drew attention for being the author of the project that prohibits the use of cell phones by students in schools, an action that became official policy.
As a candidate for federal deputy, she proposes the next step: prohibiting it due to a trend in other countries.
“Australia started to implement it, France and Spain approved it, China is going this way. We are sure that this matters a lot in protecting the healthy development of children and adolescents”, he states.
In Congress, she also intends to dedicate herself to environmental issues and opposition to issues such as oil exploration in the Amazon and the relaxation of licensing rules. Often, these are policies that have support within the Lula government’s own base.
“Today we live in a National Congress with its back to the population, which is sponsoring setbacks in all areas, which only works for itself”, he criticizes. “That’s why we need to have more people there dedicated to the environmental issue.”
