A security guard attacked a NO state deputy at a party event in Natal. The meeting discussed combating violence against women and was attended by the first lady.
The deputy stated that she was hit by a “suddenly closed door” at the end of the event. According to the note released by parliamentarian Divaneide Basílio, she was identified and accompanied by a child. There were no serious injuries, the statement said.
The PT directory in the state stated that Janja removed the security guard. “The first lady, as soon as she was informed, promptly repudiated what happened and removed the agent from the following events. The cowards who commit this type of brutality and those who spread lies about the situation deserve all our repudiation”, states the party.
The security guard, according to the state’s PT, was an “agent external to the organization” of the event. Divaneide stated on social media that Janja and the Minister of Women, Márcia Lopes, provided support. According to the state directory, the “episode has been clarified and has been resolved.” UOL contacted the first lady’s press office and is awaiting a response. In case of response, the text will be updated.
At the following event, the deputy indirectly commented on the episode. A member of the PT’s National Women’s Secretariat, Divaneide said she will not accept any woman being silenced. “We, women, have said, everywhere, that we will never be silenced here again, but today I want to say that we will not be silenced, but we will also never be blocked again. The doors will not close on us, no one dares to slam a door in front of a black woman”, she stated.
Janja has participated in agendas against femicide. In addition to Rio Grande do Norte, she visited the states of and . At the beginning of the year, the government signed a pact against feminicide and, with the increase in the number of violence against women, this should also be an issue explored by Lula in his re-election campaign.
“Episodes like this demonstrate that machismo still manifests itself in the most diverse spaces of society, reinforcing the need to strengthen public policies, institutions and mandates committed to promoting equality, respect and guaranteeing women’s rights”, wrote deputy Divaneide Basílio in a note published on social media.
