Real Madrid striker Rodrygo will undergo surgery on Tuesday morning (10) to reconstruct the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and the external meniscus of his right knee, which were torn on the 2nd, during a duel against Getafe in the Spanish Championship.
The surgery will be performed in Madrid by Spanish doctor Manuel Leyes Vence, a specialist in traumatology and orthopedic surgery. He is head of the Traumatology and Surgery Service at La Luz University Hospital and Olympia Medical Center and has cared for players such as Zidane, Sérgio Ramos, Luka Modric and Éder Militão.
An ACL tear is considered one of the most serious injuries in sport and the time taken to return to the field is estimated by experts to be between eight and nine months. Therefore, the 25-year-old player is out of the World Cup, which starts on June 11th.
“One of the worst days of my life. How much I always feared this injury”, wrote the attacker in a post on his social networks after confirming the severity of the injury.
Rodrygo played in the Qatar Cup, in 2022, and was marked for wasting his penalty in the penalty shootout against Croatia, in the quarter-finals, when the Brazilian team ended up eliminated.
Since Italian Carlo Ancelotti took over the Brazilian team in June last year, Rodrygo has played four matches, scoring two goals in the 5-0 victory against South Korea, and an assist in the 2-0 victory over Senegal.
In the current 2025/26 season, he played 27 matches for Real Madrid, with three goals and four assists.
