The state of São Paulo currently has 425 female attackers monitored by electronic ankle bracelets, according to data from the São Paulo government. The system is used in cases of domestic violence with protective measures determined by the Court.

Monitoring is carried out 24 hours a day by the Military Police Operations Center (Copom). After a custody hearing and court decision, the attacker starts to wear an ankle bracelet and has his movements monitored in real time.

When measures are violated, the system issues audible and visual alerts at the Copom central office. A vehicle is sent to the scene to approach the suspect, while another team is directed to the victim.

The policy is also integrated into the SP Mulher Segura application, which allows women with a protective measure to call the police via a panic button if they notice their aggressor approaching.

According to the state government, the initiative served as a reference for a federal law sanctioned in April 2025, which provides for the use of electronic ankle bracelets to monitor aggressors in cases across the country.
