The president’s team was shocked when they saw (PL) and shared with (PT) the favoritism in voting intentions to be carried out (or not) next October.
Then it was announced that there would be a change of strategy in the campaign for re-election, with a heavy offensive against the opponent who had been underestimated until then. Judging by the first direct reaction against the senator, there is a lack of strategic thinking in this attack.
In favor of the advisors, it appears that it was Lula’s idea to go to the inauguration ceremony because Flávio was on the guest list. From contempt he began to give his rival a place of honor on his agenda. For free, the senator can guide the steps of the President of the Republic.
Lula would appear as head of state, a prominent figure in the main scene of the ceremony, with the right to a bilateral meeting with the inaugurated party. The opponent, no matter how much ideological identity they have with the owner of the party, would be reserved a secondary role.
The impression that the Brazilian president has escaped the line is inevitable, and in a situation in which he would be better placed. He unnecessarily made a slight, committed diplomatic discourtesy, subjected an act of government to political-electoral logic and once again showed how he lets the campaign atmosphere contaminate the exercise of the Presidency.
If he believed he was superior by not attending the same event as his opponent, Lula was wrong in his assessment, as he created a situation of parity. The episode may seem unimportant, but it gains relevance if examined in the context of the plan to combat the former president’s firstborn son.
The specter of his father, , until recently interested Lula as a platform counterpoint. Flávio’s initial performance, however, showed that the surname, instead of representing a liability, could be an asset requiring more elaborate strategic expertise from Palácio do Planalto.
