The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, imposed, on Wednesday, 11, three conditions to end the conflict against the United States and Israel. This was the first public statement by an Iranian official about a possible end to the war in the Middle East.
“In conversations with the leaders of Russia and Pakistan, I reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace in the region,” Pezeshkian wrote in a post on X. He stated that the conflict was “instigated” by the US and Israel.
According to the president, Iran’s demands to end the conflict are:
- Recognition of the country’s “legitimate rights”;
- Payment of repairs;
- And the offering of “firm international guarantees” against possible future aggressions.
Pezeshkian’s statement, however, contradicts the statements made this Thursday, 12th, by the new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, who said, in his first public statement, that he was willing to continue the war.
“I assure everyone that we will not refrain from avenging the blood of their martyrs. The retaliation we have in mind is not limited only to the martyrdom of the great leader of the Revolution; on the contrary, each member of the nation who is martyred by the enemy constitutes a separate case in the archive of revenge,” Khamenei said in a statement read by a presenter from the state broadcaster.
“One point I must emphasize is that, in any case, we will obtain compensation from the enemy. If he refuses, we will seize his property to the extent we deem appropriate, and if this is not possible, we will destroy his property to the same extent,” he added.

The war in the Middle East entered its 13th day this Thursday, with new attacks and signs of expanding conflict. Israel said it had begun a new “large-scale” offensive against targets linked to the Iranian regime, while a drone launched by Tehran hit a luxury tower in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.
