An event was reportedly planned at the synagogue, but the area has since been completely cordoned off, with no one allowed to enter or exit.

Security around the synagogue had already been tightened after the attack on the US embassy in Oslo on March 8, which prompted authorities to increase protective measures at Jewish institutions.

This incident comes shortly after the West Bloomfield, Michigan synagogue attack where a man drove his car into the Temple Israel synagogue and then opened fire.

The gunman approached the guards and an exchange of gunfire ensued, with the Associated Press reporting that the gunman was killed by the guards’ gunfire. Everyone in the neighboring school and daycare was safely evacuated.
