Center of Portimão prepares for transformation with Digital Commercial District

The Municipality of Portimão will present on March 16th, at 10:00, at Café Concerto do TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, the project “Comércio do Centro – Bairro Comercial Digital”, an initiative aimed at modernizing and dynamizing the historic and commercial center of the city.

The session is aimed at all traders in the center of Portimão and marks the beginning of the implementation phase of the project, which represents a global investment of around 1.3 million euros, of which approximately 950 thousand euros are co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

According to Portimão City Hall, “the project aims to digitally modernize commerce in the center of Portimão, promoting the competitiveness of local traders, attracting new audiences and enhancing the city’s historical and cultural heritage.”

Project bets on the digitalization of local commerce

According to the municipality, “Portimão’s Digital Commercial District aims to modernize and digitize local commerce, covering around 150 companies in the city center”.

The project integrates several tools and services aimed at traders, including a free digital marketplace, with an online store, reservation, ordering and delivery systems. It is also planned to create a website and a mobile application for Bairro Comercial Digital, with an interactive map, events calendar and tourist itineraries.

Among the planned solutions are also augmented reality experiences in historical and cultural points of interest, interactive billboards in public spaces, digital lockers for collecting orders and free and certified training in digital skills for traders, among other initiatives.

Session presents tools and forms of membership

The public presentation will be attended by the mayor of Portimão and the manager of the Digital Commercial District, as well as representatives from AEA – Associação dos Empresários do Algarve and the company Mygon, responsible for the e-commerce platform.

According to the Municipality, “in this session, traders will be able to learn in detail about the tools that the project provides and how to join.”

In the following days, between March 17th and 20th, the Mygon team will be in the field to carry out the in-person “onboarding” process for retailers interested in joining the digital marketplace.

Partnerships and financing under the PRR

The project is promoted by Portimão City Hall in partnership with several regional entities, namely ACRAL – Algarve Commerce and Services Association, APCS – Portimonense Commerce and Services Association and ATP – Portimão Tourism Association.

It also counts on the collaboration of AEA – Associação dos Empresários do Algarve, responsible for the training component, EPGE – Escola Profissional Gil Eanes, which participates in the production of content and support for the project, and the Division of Museums and Heritage of Portimão City Council, in the development of historical-cultural content.

According to , “Portimão’s Digital Commercial District is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, within the scope of Component 16 – Companies 4.0.”
