Francisco Pinto Balsemão.

The mansion where Francisco Pinto Balsemão spent much of his childhood and youth no longer belongs to the former prime minister’s family. The property, located on Rua Ribeiro Sanches, in the Lapa neighborhood, in Lisbon, was sold in 2025, a few months before the death of the founder of Impresa.

According to the newspaper, the change of ownership took place on June 24, 2025. The information is the result of property registry data revealed in an investigation conducted by the website Página Um.

A new international owner

The buyer of the property is Colombian businessman Eduardo Trujillo Uribe. According to the same source, the new owner maintains business interests linked mainly to the Mexican market. According to the same source, there is little public data available about the businessman. It is only known that he is associated with the company Tabacolmex and that he lives in an area considered exclusive in the Mexican city of Guadalajara.

The building is among the best-known properties in that historic area of the capital. The newspaper writes that the mansion was built at the beginning of the 20th century and maintains architectural features associated with the time.

It is also important to highlight that the property occupies a total area of around 2,335 square meters. The interior space, measuring approximately 1,450 square meters, is spread over four floors and includes a total of 29 rooms.

Gardens and view over the Tagus

In addition to the residential areas, the property also includes two gardens and a garage. According to the same publication, the elevated position of the house allows a wide view of the Tietê River. The mansion also has a visual frame over the Casal area of Lisbon, reinforcing the real estate value of that location in the capital.

For some time, the house did not just have a residential function. The building also served as the headquarters of the Impresa group. The company that owns SIC and the newspaper Expresso maintained its facilities there until June 2023, the year in which it left the space.

Balsemão’s childhood memories

Francisco Pinto Balsemão formally inherited the mansion in 1969, although he had lived there since he was a child. According to Correio da Manhã, he remained in the house until he was 27 years old, when he married for the first time.

In his memoirs, he recalled his childhood in that space as a “golden and excessively protected” life, adding that “he lived almost cloistered for the first 10 years of his life.”
