The governor of Rio Grande do Sul and pre-candidate for the Presidency, Eduardo Leite (PSD), stated in an interview with the program Free Channelfrom TV Band, that the 2026 election will have the case of the billion-dollar frauds at Banco Master as the main political scandal.
“Brazilians are going to the polls once again this year in the face of serious corruption scandals that cannot be admitted. We are facing an election that has Banco Master as the big scandal”, stated Leite in an excerpt of the interview published on the program’s website.
Eduardo Leite promised in the interview that his first action, if elected president in October, would be to send a proposed amendment to the Constitution to eliminate re-election to Executive positions. It was also a change in the Constitution that made the practice permitted, approved in 1997 during the government of former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB).
“I, in order to create a better environment, would immediately send an amendment at the beginning of the government to end the re-election of the President of the Republic”, stated Leite.
O Free Channel interviewed Leite and the other two governors who are pre-candidates for the Presidency of the PSD: that of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, and that of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior. The program will air at 10pm this Sunday (15).
Pre-candidates disagree on the age of criminal responsibility

The three governors who are candidates for the Presidency of the PSDB disagreed on the reduction of the age of criminal responsibility in an interview with the Canal Livre program. While Ratinho Júnior and Ronaldo Caiado were in favor of the proposal, Leite pointed to the infrastructure incapable of receiving new inmates.
Ratinho Júnior said that he “likes the idea”, but stated that an in-depth legislative analysis on the subject is necessary: “I like the idea, but I also think that there needs to be an in-depth debate on this subject”.
Caiado argues that tightening the Penal Code would reduce juvenile crime. He also highlighted that in crimes against life, such as homicide, it is necessary for teenagers to be punished as adults.
“I’m in favor. When you toughen up and know that there is a penalty and that there are consequences, this 16-year-old group has to start answering, yes, for the crimes committed”, said the governor of Goiás.
Leite said that there needs to be an improvement in the prison structure before reducing the age of criminal responsibility. According to him, as it stands, prisons become recruiting environments for new inmates.
“I think you can move forward with a discussion about the age of criminal responsibility as long as you manage to resolve the prison system first, otherwise we will be putting ourselves in a system that will recruit young people into crime as well,” said the governor of Rio Grande do Sul.
