A plane, allegedly carrying patients infected with hantavirus, made an emergency landing at Ingenio airport, on the island of Gran Canaria, in Spain, this Wednesday (6).
The aircraft stopped due to a rupture in one of the isolation units and will continue its route to Malaga, Spain. Another plane carrying patients landed in Amsterdam on Wednesday afternoon.
The landing comes after Morocco refused a stopover, according to local media reports.
One and adrift since Sunday (3) off the coast of Cape Verde was supposed to leave for Spain, after removing three people, two of them seriously ill.
The MV Hondius, with almost 150 people on board, is expected to dock in Tenerife in the Canary Islands within three days, Spain’s health minister said, adding that the remaining passengers showed no symptoms of the disease.
Once in Tenerife, if they are healthy, all non-Spanish citizens will be repatriated to their countries, said Spain’s Health Minister, during a press conference in Madrid.
The 14 Spanish passengers will be quarantined in a military hospital in Madrid, Garcia added.
