SÃO PAULO, March 18 (Reuters) – Chinese automaker GAC announced this Wednesday that it will begin producing vehicles in Brazil from 2027 in Goiás, part of a global expansion strategy for the group created in 2008.
The company entered into a partnership with the Brazilian HPE and will use the factory in Catalão (GO), which already produces Mitsubishi models. GAC is expected to produce a production capacity of up to 50,000 vehicles per year.
GAC has joint ventures in China with the Japanese companies Toyota and Honda and the announcement reinforces the competition in the Brazilian market by Chinese automakers that in the country have BYD as the sales leader.
The company launched its operation in Brazil last May, when it had already announced its intention to have local production by the end of this year.
GAC, which claims to be the sixth largest car manufacturer in China, last year announced investment plans of R$6 billion over five years in Brazil.
The Chinese automaker claims to have a presence in more than 100 countries, with production of around 2 million vehicles in 2024.
