In this municipality in Portugal, those who have children will receive €3,000: parents of twins earn more

The municipality of Cinfães, in the north of the district of Viseu, decided to significantly increase financial support for families with children. Carlos Cardoso, president of the City Council, said in statements cited that the value went from 1,000 euros to 3,000 for each baby, distributed over the first five years of life, reflecting the need to adjust support to the current cost of living.

This update of the program aims, above all, to support young couples at the beginning of their careers who face financial difficulties and who are sometimes hesitant to start a family due to these limitations. “We felt the need to increase support from 1,000 to 3,000 euros, taking into account the cost of living”, highlights Carlos Cardoso.

Distribution of support

The “Nascer em Cinfães” program divides the 3 thousand euros into several phases. At the time of birth, parents receive R$500 in cash and another R$500 in the first year of life, allocated to expenses for the child, such as pharmacy, health or clothing, as long as they are incurred in the municipality.

The remaining 2,000 euros are distributed over four years, 500 euros per year, and are intended to cover any child-related expenses, as long as they are also incurred in Cinfães. The publication adds that this measure helps boost the local economy, fixing spending on commerce and services in the municipality.

Impact on the population

Carlos Cardoso says that strengthening support is not limited to immediate financial support. “And with this measure we are also helping to settle people, families, increase the population in the municipality of Cinfães”, he highlights, highlighting the demographic component of municipal policy.

The program covers all children born since January 1, 2026, as long as the parents resided in the county for at least one year before the birth. In the case of twins, the total support doubles, reaching up to 6 thousand euros, adds the publication.

Program history

“Nascer em Cinfães” was created in 2014 and since then has been financially supporting families in the municipality. According to Notícias ao Minuto, by the end of 2025, 1,301 supports had been granted, totaling more than one million euros, highlighting the scale and continuity of the program.

The initiative has been adjusted over the years, both in the financial increase of support and its duration, in order to reflect the current needs of families and promote the sustainability of the project, says the same source.

Strategic objectives

In addition to direct support to families, City Hall seeks to stimulate the local economy by conditioning spending on the municipality. Carlos Cardoso explains that this policy allows resources to be applied to local commerce and services, strengthening Cinfães’ economic activity.

The program also aims to create an incentive for young couples to settle in the territory, countering the emigration trend and promoting demographic growth, adds the publication.

The vision for the future

The reinforcement of the program comes in a context of valuing family support policies in Portugal, seeking to reconcile social protection, economic sustainability and local development.

According to the same source, the Cinfães City Council intends to maintain this strategy on an ongoing basis, ensuring that the benefits reach all eligible families and promote a balance between social needs and economic growth.
