Senator should be Flávio Bolsonaro’s (PL-RJ) platform in the state, as governor Ratinho Junior (PSD) will run for president and support his own group
O Liberal Party (PL) closed support for Sergio Moro’s pre-candidacy (União-PR) to the government of Paranáduring a meeting with the senator at the party headquarters this Wednesday (18).
With this, the Bolsonarists solve the problem of the lack of a platform for senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in the state, as governor Ratinho Junior (PSD) will run for President of the Republic and support his own group.
“We’re going to support Moro, that’s right. Now he needs to define his situation at União Brasil. And we’re going to move forward”, stated PL’s national president, Valdemar Costa Neto, after the meeting.
Moro must have a meeting tonight with the federation of his partythe Progressive Union (União-PP), to deal with the candidacy. If you cannot find a subtitle to compete, the plan B is for him to join the PL.
Valdemar stated that Moro’s affiliation was not defined at this morning’s meeting, but suggested it was possible. Upon leaving the meeting, the senator did not want to talk about the subject.
“Nothing like that has been defined. He (Moro) will talk now to see what is best for him. (…) And maybe with 22 (PL acronym) Moro will win the election in the first round, now we need to see if he comes to the party or not”, he declared.
The leader denied that the movement represents a break with Ratinho’s group in Paraná. The Bolsonarists and Gilberto Kassab’s party there were raids in the 2024 municipal election e Today he has his own presidential projects.
“We didn’t break anything. Ratinho lives in my heart. But it turns out that he’s going to run for president, and then we’re going to have zero votes in Paraná?”, he said.
Moro has been having difficulties in getting support from the acronym itself to compete for Ratinho’s succession. In December, the PP directory in Paraná unanimously decided to veto his name for the government of Paraná by the federation. Moro, who has been leading voting intention polls, classified the decision at the time as an “arbitrary imposition”.
The PP leadership in the state had met in Curitiba with the presence of the national president of the party, senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), who endorsed the veto of the former Lava Jato judge. “The party in Paraná will not approve the name of candidate Moro. Of the 27 states, this is the most important directory, but it is the only one that is still having this discussion”, he said upon leaving the meeting.
The conversation between Valdemar and Moro takes place one week after the campaign coordinator of Flávio, senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), meet with Mouse to ask for his support for the PL presidential candidacy.
or accept would imply Ratinho giving up the vacancy currently in dispute within the PSD itself. Two other governors, that of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, and that of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, compete with each other to become candidates for the Palácio do Planalto for the acronym.
Ratinho replied to Marinho that the PSDB has not yet decided who will be the presidential candidate and that he could not respond for the party, according to the governor’s allies. The two agreed to speak until the end of March.
Ratinho’s allies told Estadão that the governor would take to Flávio the irritation caused by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2024 municipal elections. At the time, PSD had an agreement for the PL to nominate the vice-president on the ticket for the candidate for mayor of Curitiba, Eduardo Pimentel (PSD), sponsored by Ratinho.
Although the PL had chosen Bolsonarista Paulo Martins for the vacancy, Bolsonaro ended up sided with rival Cristina Graeml (then at PMB, now at União Brasil), which infuriated Ratinho’s group.
Bolsonaro’s declared support for Graeml on the eve of the first round was seen as essential for the 54-year-old journalist, new to politics, to guarantee her place in the second round – she would end up defeated. The episode also took the PL by surprise. Leaders of the PSD in Paraná now want to avoid another betrayal in this year’s elections.
