Military Police (PM) operation in the center of Rio de Janeiro this Wednesday (18) killed the drug lord of Morro dos Prazeres, Cláudio Augusto dos Santos, and six more men indicated as drug traffickers of the Red Command (CV).

Santos was known as “Jiló dos Prazeres” and was 55 years old. He had 135 criminal records and was on the run with 8 outstanding arrest warrants.

A resident and his wife were taken hostage by six men as drug traffickers attempted to escape. The police reported that during the exchange of gunfire the six suspects and the civilian were killed. The wife was taken to the hospital due to the great commotion of the situation.

According to the Municipal Health Department, the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital received 11 people from the police operation in the central region of Rio this Wednesday. “Eight men who were shot arrived dead to the unit. A police officer, injured by shrapnel, was treated and released. Two other people remain hospitalized in the unit in stable health,” the secretariat wrote in a note.

According to the corporation, the operation launched by the Special Police Operations Battalion (Bope) was carried out to execute search and seizure warrants against CV members who were suspected of being involved in drug trafficking and vehicle theft in the region.
