Neymar released this Wednesday (18) a video showing his reaction to the Brazilian team’s call-up, announced last Monday (16). The player was at Santos’ CT, having a massage session, when he followed everything on his cell phone and saw the coach close the list without mentioning his name.
“Well, Ancelotti, what about me?”, he joked, with a smile.
The scene is part of the video “48 hours without filter”, published on his YouTube channel, in which the attacker shows moments of his routine between Saturday (14) and Monday (16).
Soon after, Neymar commented on his absence from the list: “The national team’s call-up has just come out. I wasn’t called up. I’m sad, obviously, but that’s it. As I said yesterday, whether I’m there or not, I’ll always support the team. Now it’s time to keep working, improve in everything and be prepared if an opportunity arises.”
Later, outside the training center and inside the car, he returned to the subject, reinforcing the feeling, but focusing on recovery.
“I was upset, I was sad. But that’s what I say: the sadness is now. For me, the page has already turned. Tomorrow I need to put this behind me, train, play… work. If the chance to play in the World Cup comes up, I want to be ready.”
Even before the call-up, in a relaxed conversation with goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão, Neymar already showed uncertainty about the situation. When asked if he would be on the list, he responded directly: “I don’t know.” Upon hearing that there was no confirmation before, he joked: “Before, I already knew it was going to happen anyway, right?”
After releasing his list, Ancelotti justified Neymar’s absence. “Why didn’t I call him in this call-up? Because he’s not 100% and I need 100% players,” said the coach. This time, however, he left the door open. “Neymar can be at the World Cup. If he can reach 100%, he can be,” he said.
The final squad for the World Cup is scheduled for May 18th.
