Santos announces hiring of Cuca after Vojvoda’s dismissal

Santos announced the hiring of coach Cuca to lead Peixe after the dismissal of Juan Pablo Vojvoda. The coach’s contract is valid until the end of 2026.

Santos was defeated by Internacional, 2-1, this Wednesday (19), in the Brazilian Championship.

“Santos Futebol Clube agreed this Thursday (19) to hire coach Cuca for the remainder of the season. The new commander signed a contract valid until the end of 2026. Cuca arrives at Peixe accompanied by assistant Cuquinha and physical trainer Omar Feitosa. Born in Curitiba (PR), Alexi Stival is 62 years old and will begin his fourth spell at Santos Futebol Clube. Previously, the coach commanded Alvinegro Praiano in 2008, 2018 and 2020-2021. Welcome back, Cuca!”, says the club’s note.

Last work

In 2025, his last job was at Atlético-MG. Cuca led the Minas Gerais team in 47 games, recording 22 wins, 13 draws and 12 defeats, a 56% success rate and was state champion.

Goodbye, Vojvoda

Santos announced, this Thursday (19), the dismissal of coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda and the members of his technical committee after the 2-1 defeat to Internacional, in the seventh round of the Brasileirão.

The departure comes amid pressure over recent results. The coach ends his spell with 33 games, totaling 10 wins, 13 draws and 10 defeats. In 2025, Vojvoda played an important role in avoiding the club’s relegation in the Brazilian Championship, but, in the current season, the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of Paulistão.

In the 2026 Brasileirão, Santos has six points and occupies 16th place, close to the relegation zone. The defeat at home to Internacional, which reached five points and rose to 17th place, increased internal pressure and accelerated the board’s decision.
