One person was killed when a cable car fell on a snow-covered mountainside in one of its centers, while strong winds prevailed in the area.
A police spokesman told reporters that one person was fatally injured, although the exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed. The person, whose identity has not been released, was the sole passenger on the cable car, police said.
A helicopter arrived at the scene in the Engelberg ski resort in central Switzerland to pick up the victim, airlift service Rega said.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, according to Niedwalden cantonal police.
