Conmebol (the South American Football Confederation) defined the groups for the first phase of the Copa Libertadores on Thursday night (19). Brazil has six representatives in the competition.
The number could be higher, but Bahia and Botafogo ended up eliminated in the preliminary stages.
In total, there are 32 teams classified for the group stage. Each group has four teams, which will face each other in round-trip games. The top two in each group advance to the round of 16, while the third-placed teams compete in the Copa Sudamericana playoffs.
The first round of the competition is scheduled to be played between April 7th and 9th. Again in a single game, the decision will be made on November 28th.
After equaling Argentina’s number of titles in the last edition, with the trophy achieved by Flamengo, Brazil will have the chance to isolate itself as the country with the most titles. Currently, Brazilians and Argentines have 25 cups each.
